Catching Kitsch

Small Heading
Chaos is occuring, and her mind is overflowing. She has been through some worrisome times that always haunt the back of her mind, but she does not let it effect her future. Her mind is sometimes troubled, but her potential is endless. She is fearless and audacious and is not afraid to be herself. She is constantly on the lookout to grow in her personal style and explore her aesthetic. One of the most important questions a fashion designer is asked is to describe his/her own style. Her style is described as the "Queen of Kitsch." She loves surrealism and thinking outside the realm of "normalcy." She is not and does not design for the pretentiousness. Personality is key to her. While others say "less is more," she believes that as long as quality is maintained, then "more is more." She is herself always, and she has no interest in imitating anyone else. She strives to be her greatest self, glitter bleeds through her veins, and her eyes sparkle with adventure.
The piece "Catching Kitsch," shown above, I created as a summary of my second year of college from summer 2015 to summer 2016. This girl featured in the drawing is a reflection of some of my different feelings throughout this past year. This past year has been filled with small achievements and personal growth. I used the various events of my past year to inspire the artwork "Catching Kitsch."
Some key details in this artwork inspired by events this past year:
-
Reintrepetation of Beauty
Inspired me to use only makeup as my drawing mediums. Some items used include mascara, eyeliner, lipstick, eyeshadow, blush, and a tad bit of nail polish
-
Co-op in Los Angeles
Symbolized through the oceanic and carefree background
-
Traveling and Exploring New Things
Symbolized with the pistachio shells (necklace) because I never had pistachios until spring of 2016
-
Exciting Future Plans
Symbolized through the ocean covering her eyes to show that she is seeing a near future with adventure because I am moving to Dallas, Texas in August for a co-op at J.C. Penney with the men's design team
-
Freedom of Speech
Shown with a fence covering her mouth
Symbolizes the current political situation; she feels that her unpopular opinion is ofen silenced in political issues
